Woman sentenced to six years in prison after stabbing husband
A woman from Grimsby has been sentenced to six years in prison after stabbing her husband in a drunken argument.
Adam Krolikowski was stabbed in Duncombe Street, Grimsby on Saturday 24 April 2021 and was sadly pronounced dead at hospital despite the best efforts of emergency services.
Anna Krolikowska, 27, of Duncombe Gardens, Grimsby was sentenced at Hull Crown Court after pleading guilty to charges of manslaughter and possessing an offensive weapon.
She was originally charged with murder, however the prosecution accepted a guilty plea to manslaughter, on the basis of diminished responsibility, after consulting police and Mr Krolikowski’s family.
The prosecution, Richard Wright QC, said that the couple lived with each other at the time with their two young children.
They were celebrating her 27th birthday with a home barbeque where “a very significant amount of alcohol was consumed”.
“At least six full-sized bottles of vodka were shared by the six adults present and this included the defendant, who was extremely drunk,” added Mr Wright.
She initially tried to conceal the knife and say that others attacked her husband, but later admitted to police that she had stabbed him, although she didn’t mean to.
Detective Inspector Nikki Burnett leading on the case said:
“Before I speak about today’s conviction, I want to first and foremost pay tribute to the family of Adam Krolikowski who have assisted us throughout the course of the investigation.
“The outcome at court could not possibly make up for the heartache and loss Adam’s family have suffered.
“I hope that it provides them with some comfort in knowing Anna cannot inflict the same pain and suffering on anybody else.
“Lastly, I’d like to also like to thank my local community and my team for their help throughout the entirety of the investigation”.
