Doncaster motor dealer pleads guilty to selling unsafe motor vehicle
Roshan Singh, currently trading as Doncaster Motor Group (previously Direct Trade Vehicles), has pleaded guilty to numerous safety offences after he sold an unsafe motor vehicle that had dangerous faults, Doncaster Council reported.
The man appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 17 November after one of his vehicles was involved in a serious collision.
Investigations uncovered various safety breeches from the point of supply.
Singh also committed several consumer protection offences through his negligence.
He lied about the quality of the unsafe motor vehicle in the original advert and even tried to prevent the buyer from seeking civil damages.
The victim reportedly went on to make a complaint to the Doncaster Trading Standards Service in February 2019.
Doncaster Council reported: “Among several faults discovered were corroded break pipes and brakes with excessive binding.
“Despite the consumer asking for a refund following the collision, Roshan Singh refused to refund.”
The unsafe motor vehicle, a Ford Focus 1.6LX, also did not have a valid full years MOT like what was advertised.
In court, Singh was fined and ordered to pay additional legal costs and compensation to the victim.
The total amount came to £3,439.
Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Enforcement, Councillor Blackham told the council: “It is fitting that this conviction was made during national road safety week and serves as a warning to motor dealers that the supply of unsafe motor vehicles in the Doncaster area will not be tolerated.
“Our Trading Standards team look into all allegations about the supply of dangerous vehicles and traders who endanger lives will be dealt with and made to pay.
“I urge consumers to report incidents to us so we can continue to crack down on these dangerous offenders and make our roads safer.”
