Five organisations receive £1.2 million government cash to boost job prospects for local people

Five organisations across North East Lincolnshire have received £1.2 million from the government to fund a range of important projects to provide job prospects for people living in the borough.

As part of the UK Community Renewal Fund, the projects have the main aim of boosting job prospects and opportunities for residents in North East Lincolnshire.

CPO and CatZero were together awarded over £147,000 to fund their Inclusion into Employment programme, which will help local people aged over 16 to enter the world of work through a bespoke programme of activities to address their individual needs.

Immingham-based logistics training company, MODAL Training, has received nearly £215,000 to provide additional capacity to deliver key qualifications, ensuring that local people can access the relevant training they need.

The Reignite project – which focuses on those aged over 45 who have found themselves unemployed due to the pandemic – has been awarded just under £200,000 to help these residents secure employment in the area.

Smarter Energy North East Lincolnshire has also been given £300,000 of the total fund. Bid by North East Lincolnshire Council, the project is said to “develop and test the feasibility of innovative approaches to SME engagement and energy reduction”.

Finally, the UK Food Valley Pilot – supported by the University of Lincoln – has been awarded over £433,500. This project will test an “innovative food sector support programme” to develop the skills and innovation capacity of the seafood sector and ensuring the position of Grimsby’s seafood industry as a “global hub”.

After being invited to bid for the funds from the UK Community Renewal Fund, 27 organisations entered, and 14 were put forward for an award – but it was the five organisations above that were successful and judged as meeting the criteria.

Deputy leader of North East Lincolnshire Council and portfolio holder for finance, resources and assets, Councillor Stan Shreeve, said: “Whilst of course we would always want as many bids to be successful as possible, the news that these five have been successful is great.

“They are proven organisations with good records of supporting and helping people within our communities and we are pleased they will be able to continue that good work.”
