Doncaster Midwives raise money for maternity bereavement facilities
Alison Grundy and Erin McNair are raising money for maternity bereavement facilities at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals by running the Doncaster 10k 2021.
The two women are Midwives in the Central Delivery Suite/Triage area to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The event, on Sunday 28 November, will see the pair complete a 10k run with any donations raised being put towards improving the time and privacy grieving mothers and families need in new maternity bereavement facilities at the hospital.
The new, peaceful environment would give families the time they need to create treasured memories with their babies.
Currently, bereaved parents are forced to say goodbye to their babies whilst in the central delivery suite where other mothers are giving birth to their healthy children.
This understandably creates further pain for the distraught parents.
The new maternity bereavement facilities in the form of a suite would provide them with the support and comfort that they need during the difficult time.
In a statement on their JustGiving donation page, Alison said: “The Bereavement suite appeal will allow us to create a shielded, peaceful environment in which bereaved parents and their families are able to have the opportunity to create precious memories with their baby in their own time.
“Currently these bereaved parents must say goodbye to their little one on the central delivery suite of Doncaster among other women who can be heard along the unit giving birth and the anticipated newborn cries that are longed for with each birth.
“The Midwives of Doncaster are amazing at supporting these women and families during their time of need, but an improved bereavement suite in the hospital would significantly improve the level of service we are able to deliver in what is a devastating time in their lives.
“For these women, the memories will be everlasting and its important we can make these as comfortable and precious as possible.”
Erin and Alison personally paid for the 10k run’s registration costs so that all of the funds would go towards this necessary addition to their place of work.
Their fundraising goal currently sits at £1,000, but donations have only reached £220 at the time of this writing.
Every penny counts, so if you have some money to spare for this good cause, please visit their page to donate now.
