Doncaster’s Age-Friendly Festival launches next week
Doncaster Council, Doncaster CCG, Age UK and more have joined together to host Doncaster’s first Age-Friendly Festival on Wednesday 29 September.
The week-long programme will feature a range of different activities and events throughout the borough.
The aim is to raise awareness about a range of services and activities that are available to support the elderly as they grow old healthily in Doncaster.
The public will have the opportunity to learn about how they can help the and gain access to leisure pursuits as well as quality health and care services.
They can also find out about a range of different groups and pursue their interests, meeting others in the community along the way.
The NHS health bus will be stopping off at venues to provide age-friendly advice to locals.
Councillor Andrea Robinson, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Together with our Team Doncaster partners, we are committed to ensuring that Doncaster is an Age-Friendly Community where people can get involved in local life, have lots of opportunities to stay fit and healthy, socialise, feel safe and comfortable in their local area and enjoy life to the full.”
Councillor Rachael Blake, Cabinet Member for Communities and Equalities, said: “The festival is a celebration of all the great services and groups there are across the borough to support people to age well and live healthy later lives.
“[There will be] lots happening every day of the week to suit various interests from sport, leisure, social groups, history [and] music to name but a few.
“Not only this, [but] there will be plenty of information and advice on health and care services and living well in the borough.
“Everyone is welcome to join the fun – the more, the merrier so please come and join us at venues across the borough as part of this very special week.”
