Sex offender sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court

A local man has been convicted of sex offences and sentenced to 12 years in jail.

George Greaves, 61, of Hull was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court for the grooming and sexual abuse of a vulnerable young girl.

He will now remain on the sex offenders register for life.

According to Humberside Police, the victim, who was only in her early teens when George Greaves abused her, has suffered a lifetime of flashbacks of her years of abuse.

She is likely to continue to suffer as a result of the ordeal.

Sentencing Greaves, Judge Nadim said: “You are guilty of a catalogue of sexual abuse of a young victim.

“By your conduct, you have destroyed an important part of her childhood and left her life blighted.”

The officer investigating this case, Detective Constable Victoria Taylor added, “Justice has been served and for the victim the end of the legal process. Sadly the mental scars will continue and she will only now be able to start building her life and look to the future.

“As with any case of child sexual abuse this was a long and difficult case and I want to praise the victim for her strength and fortitude while we worked through the investigation.”

Anyone wishing to report a case of abuse can contact Humberside Police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
