Visiting ‘paused’ at Grimsby hospital
As of today, Friday 20 August, visiting has been suspended at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.
According to the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, this is due to an increase in the number of coronavirus patients being treated on site.
Under the new rules, visiting will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances including for patients recieving end-of-life care, and those with communication, mental health and learning difficulties.
Visiting will also continue for patients using the Family Services building.
Speaking via social media, a spokesperson said: “Due to an increase in the number of positive coronavirus patients being cared for at Grimsby hospital, and to minimise the risk of spreading the virus within the hospital, visiting has been paused from today (Friday 20 August) and over the weekend.”
Ellie Monkhouse, chief nurse and director of infection prevention and control, added: “We have temporarily paused visiting from today and over the weekend at our Grimsby hospital site only.
“This is due to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases at our hospital and to help limit further spread of the virus across our clinical areas. The decision has not been taken lightly but is essential in helping to maintain the safety of our patients, visitors and staff. We will be reviewing the situation on Monday.
“I understand for our patients and their named visitor this may cause upset; however, this decision has been made with our patient’s best interests at heart. This is one of many things we are doing to protect our patients and is a temporary measure.
“I would please ask for your help in respecting these changes.
“In some cases, such as where patients are critically ill or nearing the end of their life, we will of course do our very best to accommodate your visiting needs. If you have any questions about the guidance please speak to the relevant ward manager.”
The decision is set to be reviewed on Monday.
