Inquest opened into tragic death at New Clee Station

An inquest has now opened after a body was found at New Clee Station last month.

The body of Dean Mussell, 59, was found on the tracks at the train station on 5 July 2021 after emergency services were called to the scene.

Now an inquest into the tragedy has been opened at Grimsby Town Hall.

Mark Kendall, coroner for Grimsby and Cleethorpes, opened and adjourned the hearing to a resumed date to be fixed.

Dean was an experienced and well-travelled fisherman who was well known in the Freeman Street area of Grimsby.

Trains travelling between Grimsby and Cleethorpes were halted for five hours whilst emergency services carried out investigations and replacement bus services were organised.

British Transport Police later confirmed that a man had died.

Dean’s friends helped to raise £3000 for his funeral which happened last month.
