Corporation Road Bridge set to close for works
Corporation Road Bridge is again scheduled to close for investigative works as part of a refurbishment scheme costing £4.967m.
A number of planned works have already been postponed.
Now, further works to inspect below the bridge are required in preparation for a second bridge lift attempt.
The first bridge lift attempt took place on Thursday 1 July, but due to rising water levels, an inspection under the bridge could not be carried out to understand why it was not lifting.
According to North East Lincolnshire Council, engineers inspected all parts above the water and found them to be working correctly.
Works are now scheduled to restart on Monday 12 July.
An electrical contractor will be on site for three days testing lighting cables and other electrical components on the bridge.
From Wednesday 14 July, for three days, another contractor will be on site inspecting the underside of the bridge. This part of the works will include a specialist contractor abseiling from the side of the bridge for the inspection.
The road will remain open for vehicles during this part of the works with only a daytime footpath closure required on one side of the bridge.
A second bridge lift attempt will be made on Tuesday 20 July.
A daytime road closure will be in place between 9:30am and 4pm.
The section of Corporation Road affected by the road closure will be between the mini roundabout at the entrance to Alexandra Retail Park and the junction with Victoria Street.
Advanced warning signs and a signed diversion route will be in place.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists will generally be maintained across the bridge, but there will be short periods of time when this is not possible.
The Corporation Road Bridge refurbishment is a £4.967m scheme – funded by £2.967m from the Department for Transport, £1.83m set aside by the Council and a further £170,000 from the Local Transport Fund.
