Wayne Couzens pleaded guilty to murdering Sarah Everard
The Met police officer has pleaded guilty to the murder of the 33-year-old.
Wayne Couzens kidnapped Sarah Everard in a hire car as she walked home alone from a friend’s house and went to rape and strangle the 33-year-old marketing executive.
The 48-year-old firearms-trained parliamentary and diplomatic protection officer, who had clocked off from a 12-hour shift that morning, went on to rape and strangle Sarah Everard.
Everard’s parents, Jeremy, and her mother, Susan, were among members of her family in court to hear Couzens admit his crime. Dame Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, also attended the hearing.

The death of Sarah Everard sparked an outpouring of concern about women’s safety and the lengths women have to go to in an attempt to feel and be safe.
The police chief said she had personally apologised to Ms Everard’s family, adding the force was “sickened, angered and devastated by this man’s crimes – they are dreadful, and everyone in policing feels betrayed”.
