The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced that driving tests can resume from 22 April.
Non-emergency driving tests have been banned since early January but they will resume this week in most parts of the UK.
As of April 12 driving lessons resumed after months of being stopped and this week driving tests can commence again.
Those going on tests or lessons must wear a face covering while inside the car. Those who can’t wear face coverings have been warned that they might not be able to take their tests at their preferred test centres by the government.
The government has released further details about how the tests will take place.
People will have to clean their car immediately before their test starts, including wiping down all of the car’s dashboard and controls.

The car will also have to be clean of “unnecessary items” particularly in the footwells, cup holders, door pockets and seats.
The examiner will also do their own clean of particular surfaces before they begin the test to be extra safe.
During the test, a window will have to be open on either side throughout. Warm clothing is being recommended, particularly on colder days.
Previously some learner drivers would also have their instructor or someone to support them in the backseat, but this is also now not allowed.
In order to limit the amount of time spent in the car, a ‘serious or dangerous fault’ that causes the driver to fail will result in the immediate end of tests, with drivers directed straight back to the test centre.
