Taylor Swift and Beyoncé break records at 2021 Grammy awards

The Covid-restrained Grammys were a mostly female-fronted affair, with wins for Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Dua Lipa, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.

Swift won album of the year; H.E.R. won record of the year. Dua Lipa won best pop album and Beyoncé won best R&B performance.

There were a series of performances that emphasised how music had, in the words of host Trevor Noah, “touched our lives and saved our souls over this unprecedented year”.

Megan Thee Stallion who summed the night up best.

“Music really helped a lot of us get through the pandemic,” she said, accepting her best rap song trophy.

“So a shout out to everybody who was here today – because a lot of these songs really pushed us all the way through.”

Trevor Noah hosted the 63rd Grammy Awards and joked about “tension” in the royal family before saying the awards are “the biggest outdoor event this year besides the storming of the Capitol”.

It’s safe to say the Royal Family have been everywhere in the past week – and it’s perhaps no surprise they’ve made it to the Grammys too.

The royals were the butt of the joke as host Trevor Noah kicked off the show by taking aim at ‘the firm’ in the aftermath of Meghan and Harry’s explosive Oprah interview.

The 37-year-old quipped: “This year’s Grammys is going to look a little different, I’m not going to front, the whole thing is going to be pretty different.

“But it’s going to be even more exciting because our nominees will be sitting at those tables for their awards, so right now there’s more tension in that tent than at a family reunion at Buckingham Palace.”
