Frozen pitches force local EFL postponements
A number of EFL Championship, League One and League Two games have been postponed today due to issues with frozen pitches.
League Two has been the worst affected by the conditions, with 10 matches called off.
Fixtures including Grimsby v Tranmere and Morecambe v Scunthorpe are affected – a new date is yet to be confirmed.
It is thought that inspections will take place over the next 24 hours to assess the situation.
New fixture dates are expected to appear on club websites in due course.
This week, Sky Bet League Two Scunthorpe v Bradford City fixture was also abandoned due to adverse weather conditions.
A statement released yesterday by Grimsby Town FC reads:
“Following a pitch inspection early this afternoon and with forecasts of continuing freezing temperatures, the attending match official made the decision to postpone the fixture.”
Similarly, a spokesperson for Scunthorpe United FC said:
“Scunthorpe United’s away Sky Bet League Two game at Morecambe on Saturday, February 13th has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at the Mazuma Stadium.
“As soon as we have a new date for the fixture, we will announce on our website and social media channels.
“All iFollow passes already purchased for the match will apply for the rearranged date.”
