Dangerous duo in gang violence on Freeman Street
Two members of a dangerous gang have appeared in court after they were seen brandishing offensive weapons including a meat cleaver, a hammer and a knife outside a bar on Freeman Street.
Appearing at Grimsby Crown Court, Jack Anderson, 21, and Owen McLeod, 20, both admitted affray and the exchange of angry words, but denied threatening anyone.
Members of the public are said to have been left in distress after violence broke out outside the Angel Pub at around 8.40pm on January 11, 2020.
Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident.
According to prosecutor Laura Marshall, several other people were involved in the incident, but only Anderson and McLeod were charged in relation to the incident.
She said:
“The defendants were not the only ones in the incident.
“Others were not charged.
“No one was struck and there were no injuries to anyone. It was an unpleasant incident.
“I cannot say which of these defendants had which weapon. they were not the only ones involved.”
Ms Marshall added that “there was distress caused to others.”
Jack Anderson received an eight-month prison sentence, with a six month sentence imposed on Owen McLeod.
Both sentences are suspended for 12 months.
