UK hotel quarantine rules announced

People returning to Britain from “red list” countries will be forced to quarantine for 10 days in government-provided accommodation such as a hotel.

How might the coronavirus crisis permanently change our lives?

Foreign nationals from 30 countries where new variants have been identified are also not allowed to enter the UK.

Arriving in the UK all travellers need to have evidence of a negative COVID-19 test as well as journey and personal contact details.

The only people exempt from providing a test  are pilots, cabin crew and border security.

If travellers do not do this, airlines may refuse to take them and/or they could be fined £500.

Then travellers must quarantine for 10 days even with a negative coronavirus test result unless travelling from Ireland.

If they are in the country for fewer than 10 days, they are required to isolate for the length of their stay but may be able to end quarantine early if they pay for a private Covid test.

Those who fail to self-isolate after arrival may be fined up to £10,000.

Travellers arriving in the country may have to cover the cost of staying in a quarantine hotel for 10 days, which could be around £1,500 however this has not been confirmed yet by the government.

People returning from 30 countries (see list below) must stay in specific hotel accommodation due to the variant strains, for 10 days.
