Higher fines for illegal house parties
Home Secretary Priti Patel has announced £800 fines for people attending house parties during lockdown.

An £800 fine will be introduced this week for all attending illegal house parties of more than 15 people in the UK.
Priti Patel told a Downing Street press conference the penalty is being brought in because of a “small minority that refuse to do the right thing”.
She added: ““The science is clear such irresponsible behaviour poses a significant threat to public health.”
The police across the country will work closely with the government to implement the new regulations around large gatherings.
The National Police Chiefs Council, NPCC, have said: “We have made it clear repeatedly that house parties, other large gatherings, should not be happening.”
“They are dangerous, irresponsible and totally unacceptable.”
The fine will double for each offence, up to a maximum of £6,400.
The £10,000 fine for holding an illegal party of more than 30 people will still only apply to organisers.
Previously the fine for anyone caught attending a house party was £200, which could be reduced to £100 if paid early.
Dr Vin Diwakar, NHS England regional medical director for London, said: “It doesn’t just put you at risk in your house, it puts your whole street and the whole of your community at risk.”
As well as parties, people who breach self-isolation can be issued fines starting at £1,000.
This can rise to £10,000 for repeat offences.
