Grimsby Creates to consult with local creative businesses in hopes to further plans

A unique opportunity has become available for Creative Workspace providers and organisations to help shape the Grimsby Creates cultural development programme.

Earlier this year, world-renowned architects, Donald Insall Associates were appointed to create redevelopment plans for a group of heritage buildings on the docks in Grimsby.

To help develop plans further, NEL Council are interested to hear the views of creative workspaces providers, through preliminary market consultation, to consider how any new creative hub of buildings could be best delivered to support and grow the creative industries in North East Lincolnshire.

Hearing from businesses and organisations that have expertise in the field will ensure that the development fulfils the ambition of the Grimsby Creates programme, creating new networks, building new facilities and a strong creative cluster.

The short questionnaire, available through the Pro-Contract portal (reference DN513879) is open until the 22nd of December.

Cllr Callum Procter, Cabinet member for Culture, said:

“This is a great opportunity for people who already manage these types of workspace to get involved and help us shape the operational and management requirements, based on similar experience in the sector”.

“We know there is a lack of specialist studio and workspace in our area to support the growth of our creative industries”.

“We want to create a space for our creative industries that is not only affordable, but that can contribute to the local community and meet their needs”.

Other elements of work in Grimsby being supported by the Cultural Development Fund programme include: a new activities, events and festival programme, the St James Square arts project, providing support for existing creative industries, and a business support programme for new start-ups and graduates in the sector.
