Changes to Doncaster’s pedestrian zone

This morning, Doncaster Council have announced additional changes to the pedestrian zone in Doncaster Town Centre.

On June 15, non-essential retailers were permitted to reopen having closed in March due to the coronavirus crisis.

Subsequently, for the safety of visitors, Doncaster Council made a number of necessary alterations to Doncaster Town Centre.

The Council have installed lots of signage to highlight the importance of social distancing.

People are being asked to use the left hand side of the busy streets and the main parts of the town centre, so that everyone is able to move around safely.

The centre of the town has been made pedestrian friendly with traffic restrictions in place from 10.30am to 4pm every day.

Motorists are no longer permitted to drive in the pedestrian zone at any time, nor are they allowed to park within the pedestrian zone at any time unless for loading and unloading during specified hours.

The town centre remains open, but now, further changes have been made. These include:

  • The day time closure of Silver Street has been removed, other than on Saturdays and Sundays between 10:30am and 4pm.
  • There will be a night time closure every night on Silver Street from 6pm and 5am.
  • Hall Gate has been removed from the Pedestrian Zone and can be accessed via Wood Street at any time.

Access for emergency vehicles has been maintained.

It is unclear how long these restrictions will be in place.
