Great Coates Motors donates vans to The Blue Lights Brigade
In a wonderful show of support for the local community during this complex and critical period, Allan McCartney at Great Coates Motors has kindly donated three vans to The Blue Lights Brigade.
Following the first donation The Blue Lights Brigade said:
“We are delighted to announce that Allan McCartney from Great Coates Motors has stepped up in this time of need to assist the most vulnerable people in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and the surrounding area by donating a van free of charge to the Blue Lights Brigade.
“This will enable us to help support the communities in North East Lincolnshire with collections and deliveries to those who are unable to leave their homes for an extended period of time due to Covid-19 precautions.
“A big thank you to Allan and all his staff at Great Coates Motors.”
Coordinated by the council, community organisations and volunteers, The Blue Lights Brigade are currently helping to support almost 200 of the communities most vulnerable households.
They are delivering boxes of essential provisions or ‘shielding packages’, ensuring that the area’s most vulnerable people receive food and other essential support, especially if they are isolated and have no family, friends or neighbours to help them.
This comes as the UK government instructs some 1.5 million of the nations most clinically vulnerable people to practice social shielding and remain inside for at least 12 weeks.

Mr McCartney has subsequently donated a second and third van. On their Facebook page, the Blue Lights Brigade said:
“We have been very kindly loaned a third van to help us with deliveries for the vulnerable in the North East Lincolnshire area by Allan McCartney from Great Coates Motors Limited.
“Thank you so much Allan and the team for your generosity in these very uncertain times. This will mean we can make more deliveries and more people will benefit from the Council’s shielding packages scheme.”
They have since received financial support from another local company, E Factor Business, in order to keep the vans insured and operational.
Dan from Nextgen Engineering has also very kindly made a donation towards fuel for the vans.
The recent crisis has seen over 500 volunteers from Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham sign up to support the scheme.
