Grassroots organisation Bessacarr FC are urgently seeking essential donations from the public, for distribution to vulnerable members of the Doncaster community.

Bessacarr FC’s players range from age 4 to adulthood. They are the biggest such organisation in Doncaster, with 32 separate teams and around 400 players.

Following the recent Covid-19 outbreak, the volunteer led organisation decided to organise a food bank in order to support vulnerable people in the community. They have since managed to deliver essentials to the address of every vulnerable household who signed up.

But, since the UK went into lockdown, donations have slowed down, and they are struggling to fulfil the influx of requests for help.

As such, Bessacarr FC have registered with the Community Hub, partnered with the Council, and are now calling on the people of Doncaster for donations of essential goods.

A spokesperson said:

“With the football season on hold, and after hearing a story of an elderly gentlemen leaving the local shop in tears because he was unable to buy what he needed due to panic buying, we decided to set up a food bank to help the vulnerable in our community.

The first week we were overwhelmed with donations. Since then we have hit the lockdown period and people coming along to donate has obviously slowed down. We are now offering to collect donations from the local area.

So far, we have managed to get essentials out to the address of every vulnerable household we’ve been given.

Over the last week the donations have started dwindling. We just need to get the word out that we need donations.”

Bessacarr FC have requested that anybody who is able to offer a donation contact them on 07444635510 to arrange collection.

To comply with social distancing measures, the organisation are requesting that donations be left in a safe place, or drop them off at The Pavilion between 10 and 12 on Sunday.

They are also still accepting requests for support.
