Daters still looking for love during Covid-19 lockdown

A study conducted by Happn has shown that two thirds of online daters are still looking for love during Covid-19 lockdown, and that 41% feel more isolated than they previously did, in the current climate.

With Britons stuck at home, people are still looking for love despite being confined at home.

71% of online daters say that Covid-19 has affected their approach to dating, with fewer arranging to meet face-to-face as soon as they usually might have; 91% have said the situation has made them open to new types of dating.

Many have said that they have taken to facetime in order to ‘meet’ their dates, as meeting at bars and restaurants is no longer a possibility.

Interestingly, 69% say that the forced isolation has helped them develop stronger connections to people they meet online. Being apart-together frequently means that people are able to forge higher quality relationships, and engage in shared activities such as watching the same movie or podcast, without any compromising physicality.

Psychological and Relationship expert Emma Kenny says:

“The increase in people using dating apps during Covid-19 shows we remain committed as ever to finding that special someone.

A real positive about having to wait to meet in person is the opportunity to cultivate a deeper connection during a challenging time. Getting to know one another’s likes and dislikes, whilst sharing a space and time thats unlikely to be repeated means bonding in a unique way.”

On the topic of forging new relationships during the Covid-19 pandemic, A&E Doctor, Dr Alex George, says:

“I certainly wouldn’t advise having new sexual partners at the moment, because the risk is you could pass on the virus. If you’ve kissed or been in contact with someone who you think has gone on to develop coronavirus, make sure you self-isolate.”
