Changes at Portsmouth City Council due to coronavirus crisis
A number of changes have been implemented at Portsmouth City Council in light of the coronavirus crisis. A number of services are now closed.
This is in line with government advice that is designed to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.
Portsmouth City Council have said that although a number of services will be closed or operating differently, they are keeping essential services running:
“We are working hard to make sure the services you rely on are available as far as we possibly can, and we are putting additional measures in place to make sure that people in at-risk groups who may be more greatly affected by the social distancing measures are supported.”
They have said that the changes they have made are in line with advice from the government and the NHS.
The Civic Offices, dog kennels, garden services, the learning and employment skills service, the licensing office and all museums and galleries are now closed and non-operational.
Housing needs, advice and support services are now closed to walk-ins, but appointments can be made.
Cleaning and adult social care services are operating as usual.
At present, rubbish and recycling services remain unaffected, but bulky collections have been suspended.
Clinical waste collections may also be affected.
All council events have now been cancelled, and event applications are no longer being processed.
Council meetings have also been closed until further notice.
Emergency services across Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight, will use joint working arrangements to effectively manage and minimise the impact of the virus on our communities during these unprecedented times.
It is unclear how long these changes are expected to last, although it is likely that they will be up for regular review in line with government announcements.
