Paramedic from Hertfordshire tests positive for Coronavirus

The East of England Ambulance Service has confirmed that a paramedic for their team, who lives in Hertfordshire, has tested positive for Coronavirus.

This follows a death from the virus, which occurred at Watford General Hospital on Monday evening.

A NHS spokesperson has said:

“The chief medical officer today confirmed a further case of Covid-19, who is a resident of Hertfordshire and a paramedic with the East of England Ambulance Service.

There are well established procedures that are being followed in a case such as this and the NHS and Public Health England are taking all necessary steps to manage the situation.”

A BBC reporter published a statement by Marcus Bailey, the chief operating officer at the service, which says that the risk to patients and staff “is very low”, and that their “first priority is protecting the public and staff.”

Information regarding where in Hertfordshire this involves is being withheld.

The trust is not providing further information as to where in Hertfordshire this involves.

Hertfordshire currently has the highest figure of positive cases than any other local authority in the UK.

An NHS spokesman said there were “well established procedures that are being followed in a case such as this”.

There are now 460 confirmed cases in the UK – 387 in England.

In all, 27,476 people have been tested so far, and eight people have died.
