By Man jailed for sexually abusing child
A 38-year-old former teacher has been sentenced to four years in prison after admitting sexually assaulting an eight-year-old boy.
Adam King, formerly of Goldcrest Way, Bicester, in Oxfordshire, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court today (Monday 23 December) to be sentenced. He pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault at an earlier court hearing.
The court heard how King sexually abused his eight-year-old victim while he was working as a volunteer on a residential trip in South Yorkshire for Diabetes UK.
The young boy went home and reported King’s behaviour to his parents, who called the NSPCC and a police investigation was launched.
Detective Constable Kath Coulter, investigating officer, said: “In court today, King was described as a ‘predatory paedophile’ and his conduct absolutely befits that description.
“While he has pleaded guilty, it is only because of the wealth of evidence against him and he has not shown any remorse for his crimes. His refusal to admit his guilt until today has caused significant distress to the victim and his family.
“I want to echo the words of the judge in this case; Judge Peter Kelson QC today praised the young victim for his ‘remarkable bravery and honesty’. I echo those sentiments and wish to commend this boy and his family for demonstrating tremendous courage and strength of character throughout our investigation.
“It is thanks to the bravery of this child that this dangerous predator is now behind bars. Child sexual abuse can have a devastating and life-long impact, I truly hope the victim finds some peace knowing that King is in prison and is able to take a step forward in his recovery.
“King wholly abused the position of trust and responsibility he held as a volunteer with Diabetes UK. He is now imprisoned and can cause no further harm.”
King was also handed a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which prevents him from having any unsupervised contact with children under 16-years-old. Breach of a SHPO is a criminal offence.
