CLEETHORPES CRICKET CLUB SIGN OVERSEAS PLAYER

Cleethorpes Cricket Club have completed the signing of their overseas player for the 2020 season which begins in April. The Meggies, intent on reclaiming their place in the ECB Premier League after suffering their first ever relegation last season, have once again looked towards South Africa for their overseas and welcome Tian Koekemoer to Chichester Road.

Koekemoer is a 25 year old left handed batsman and right arm medium fast bowler who has become a regular in the Eastern Province side after recovering from injury. In all he has scored 1416 first class runs at an average of 54.46 with a top score of 130.

In the 2018/19 South African season he was the leading score for Eastern Province in the CSA Provincial Cup with 697 runs from the 10 game competition.

Koekemoer usually bats within the top five and to date has hit 3 first class centuries and eight half centuries. In one day games he has completed a further two half centuries with the second being made just days ago.

His ability to perform with the ball will assist the Meggies still further. During his first class career the 25 year old has often performed as an opening bowler and picked up 50 wickets with his quick bowling.

During October this year he has recorded scores of 28,88, 19 not out and an undefeated 57 from his sides unbeaten three opening games of the new season.

Former Meggie Overseas players have commented favourably on the news that Koekemoer is playing at Chichester Road in 2020. Graham Hume said “ he is a decent all-rounder, good with both bat and ball”. Former player Wes Marshall who spent the 2016 season with Cleethorpes said “Tian is a genuine quality player who could play as an out and out batter as well aas an all-rounder” Last seasons overseas player, Basheru Walters, commented “he will do well on your wickets, a very nice guy as well”

After completing the contract and adding his signature the consistent Koekemoer said ”he had heard a lot about the Cleethorpes Club and the people involved and was very excited about the season ahead which will be his first trip to England”.
The Cleethorpes Club feel confident that they have secured the services of a quality player who will provide them with more than an outside chance of promotion back into the Premier League at the first attempt.
