THE official launch of the ‘Inspire Garden’ at Cleethorpes Library was met with joy by children from the Little Readers group yesterday, who took to the garden’s play areas with mini wheel barrows and sweeping brushes.
The launch followed the recent completion of the garden’s transformation project, and marked the start of national Libraries Week, a celebration of the nation’s much-loved libraries.

The project, funded by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery through the Postcode Local Trust, saw Lincs Inspire work in partnership with Grimsby Garden Centre, Tukes and Navigo, to improve the garden’s appeal to people of all ages. Beyond the winter, it is hoped that the garden will also serve as a storytelling area for children’s groups, and as a space for reminiscence sessions for older people.
Rachel McWilliam, Arts Development Officer, Lincs Inspire said: “The refurbishment by Grimsby Garden Centre has really transformed the library garden into a lovely open space to be enjoyed by everyone. Thanks to all the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery we now have a garden that’s accessible and we hope to encourage different groups to come along and utilise the space for a range of activities”.
Throughout Libraries Week, Cleethorpes, Grimsby, Immingham and Waltham Libraries will all be hosting the usual reading groups for children and a programme of monthly talks begins at Waltham Library this today. For more info visit lincsinspire.com
