200,000 older people are abused by their partners.

A report shockingly found that 200,000 Britons in their 60s and 70s suffered domestic abuse last year.

The report also found that almost a quarter of those killed in their own homes were near or past pension age.

The report was drawn up by the Age Uk Charity. They are calling on the Government to extend a planned domestic abuse law to cover carers and neighbours who exploit vulnerable people.

There is a misconception that domestic abuse only happens to people who are younger. But sadly there are hundreds of thousands of older people who are affected too.

Between April 2017 and March 2018 it was found that 93 of the 400 victims of domestic killings were over the age of 60. In older people there were 139,500 women and 74,300 men who experienced domestic abuse.
