Six towns in Greater Lincolnshire are set to benefit from a raft of Town Deals that are being set up across England.
Boston, Grimsby, Lincoln, Mablethorpe, Scunthorpe and Skegness are among 100 towns which will work with the Government to develop innovative regeneration plans.
The Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership has warmly welcomed today’s announcement by Rt Hon Robert Jenrick, MP for Newark and Midlands Engine Champion.
The 100 towns that are eligible for support from the £3.6 billion Towns Fund include places with a proud industrial and economic heritage which have not always benefited from economic growth in the same way as more prosperous areas.
They have today been invited to develop proposals for their own Town Deal. Communities, businesses and local leaders will join forces to draw up plans to transform their town’s economic growth prospects with a focus on improved transport, broadband connectivity, skills and culture.
“We warmly welcome the Local Government Secretary’s announcement of £241 million for the new Towns Fund to support our towns in Greater Lincolnshire, announced in the Spending Round this week,” said Ursula Lidbetter OBE, Chair of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP.
“Boston, Skegness, Mablethorpe, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Lincoln have been asked to work with the Government to develop innovative regeneration plans and work up a town deal.
“Greater Lincolnshire communities form a major part of growing and sustaining our economy and we are confident that this opportunity will have a major impact on supporting these six areas to thrive and build a stronger, fairer economy for all.”
Robert Jenrick MP commented: “Ensuring that prosperity and opportunities are available to everyone in this country, not just those in London or our biggest cities, is at the heart of the mission of this Government.
“We want to level up our great towns, raising living standards and ensuring they can thrive with transformative investment in transport, technology, skills and culture.
“I will now work with local people from the 100 communities announced today to agree proposals to invest up to £25 million in each place. I hope these deals will provide the investment and the impetus for long-term renewal ensuring each town can look to the future with a new optimism.”
Once approved, Town Deals will improve connectivity, provide vital social and cultural infrastructure and boost growth – and communities will have their say on how the money is spent.
