Doncaster is one of the worst areas for drivers with points on their licence

Figures released this week show that almost one in ten drivers in Doncaster have penalty points on their driving licence.

Doncaster is 5th on the list just released by the Department for Transport (DfT).  This shows that 44,786 motorists have penalties against them – 8.54% of the 524,470 licensed drivers in the area.

Yorkshire doesn’t do too well overall as Halifax, Bradford and Huddersfield are 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, with Wakefield, Leeds, and Harrogate also in the ‘top ten’.

Nationally, the DfT data shows there are 2,711,493 motorists in Great Britain with penalty points, accounting for 6.65% of the total driving population.   What is more worrying is that there are more than 11,000 drivers nationally with 12 or more points on their licence!  (11,021 as at March 2019.)  Sadly, Doncaster figures in the top ten of this list too – in 9th place with 207 drivers with 12 or more points on their licence.

However, people in Doncaster may take some comfort from the fact that the data is broken down by postcode area – and the whole of the DN area stretches as far afield as Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

Canterbury is home to the UK’s safest drivers, with just 3.72% of the town’s licence holders having penalty points on their record.

The worst individual driver is a 41-year-old male in East Sussex, who had 60 points on his record.  The worst female driver is a 25-year old woman living in Nottinghamshire with 48 points on her licence.
