By CHARITY WALK IN MEMORY OF SCUNTHORPE BUS OPERATOR
An eight-mile fundraising walk along a historic bus route in North Lincolnshire is being held in memory of Hornsby’s former managing director Raymond Hornsby.
People of all ages can take part in the Hornsby’s March for Men on Sunday, October 6 to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
The walk will follow the path of the Hornsby’s Bus Route 6, which has been running since 1914. Walkers will start at the Hornsby’s Bus Depot and continue to Scunthorpe Bus Station. The walk will end back at the depot, where breakfast butties will be available.
There will be refreshments along the way and at the end of the walk Brigg-based Serenity Beauty will be offering foot massages.
Raymond Hornsby died on June 18, aged 89, after a five-year battle with prostate cancer. Organisers want to raise awareness of prostate cancer as well as gather vital funds.
Mr Hornsby began working in the family business when he was a teenager. He took over running it in 1965. His funeral saw a procession of vintage buses travel from the Hornsby bus depot.
Anyone interested in taking part in the Hornsby’s March for Men can apply for a place now. Registration costs £15 and includes a T-shirt for those who sign up earliest, the breakfast butty and a small donation. Hornsby’s will match every £15 paid, doubling the amount to be donated Prostate Cancer UK. Walkers can raise more funds on the day if they choose to.
Nick Hornsby, Managing Director of Hornsby’s, said: “Although when he died my father was a good age of 89, if he had not had prostate cancer, I’m convinced he would have lived to be 100. By helping to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the signs to look out for, we can help save lives. We hope many people will join us on the March to remember my father and raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Donations big and small can help to fund research to ensure one day no man will die from this disease.”
