Witnesses sought: reported rape

Witnesses sought following reported rape in Cleethorpes

An investigation has been launched into a reported rape in Cleethorpes in the early hours of Thursday 22 August.
We were called just after midnight to reports that a woman had been found on the beach near to Central Promenade in a distressed state.

Officers were quickly in attendance to support her, and an investigation has now been launched.

Humberside Police stated: “We are very keen to speak with four potential witnesses who were in the area at the time, and are appealing for them and anyone else with information to come forward.”

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Chris Calvert said: “I want to trace any potential witnesses who were on and around Central Promenade in Cleethorpes earlier in the night who may have seen the woman walking in the direction of the pier. I know there were two cars parked on Central Promenade at the time of the alleged incident. One of the cars contained a man and woman who spoke with a CCTV operator who helped the woman. There was also a man and woman in another car nearby who were eating a McDonald’s meal. I want these witnesses to contact us as soon as possible as they may hold crucial evidence that could help. I would like to make it clear that they are not suspects.
I also want to make it very clear that we are not linking this to any other ongoing investigation. I want to reassure the wider public that I believe this to be an isolated incident, and there have been extra police patrols in that area of Cleethorpes since.”
