Did you compete in this year’s Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k?
On Sunday 21 July, Grimsby hosted the fourth annual Ørsted Grimsby 10k and 1.2k St. Hugh’s Hospital Family Fun Run.
The race was enjoyed by more than 3,000 runners as well as supportive members of the public who came out to watch the event and enjoy the Finish Line Festival in People’s Park.
Organisers of the Ørsted Grimsby 10k Neil and Nicola Pattison said: “There were lots of highlights during the race, some of them being the gracious comments to us from happy runners and seeing so many people cross the finish line.
“We want to say thank you to absolutely everyone involved; the sponsors, charities, community groups and volunteers, the public who came out to support, the patient drivers and also the fabulous street cleansing team who helped us clear up.
“The atmosphere was great as always and it was heart-warming to see all the runners wishing the care-home resident, Tony, a happy 100th birthday.
“We are overwhelmed by the response from everyone who attended; they are hailing it as the best one yet!
“We hope to see you again for GY10K2020!”
Residents at The Meadows Care Home on Louth Road were some of the people who came out to show their support to runners.
Tape2Tape was pleased to provide their residents with some water to hand out to runners.
The day was made only more special because it was the 100th birthday of their resident and Grimsby local, Tony Wright.
Tony and the other residents and care home nurses took their place outside the home which is about 3.5km into the 10km race route.
Tony had many well-wishers on the race Facebook and was easily spotted because of his 100th birthday balloons.
As well as many hugs and high-fives Tony received a card which was bought by one runner and passed around for signing by other runners at the starting of the race.

Tony said: “It’s great to see the community coming together. I’m proud to be British.”
Other residents watching the race said: “We are really enjoying ourselves today.
“It’s great to be able to cheer on the runners.”
Kerry Leaning from The Meadows Care Home said: “I am so pleased we joined together for this community event.
“The residents and staff were overwhelmed with the well-wishers and said how nice it was that Tony’s birthday was part of the run.
“Amazing day for all at The Meadows.
“A massive thank you to all involved and those at Tape2Tape for getting the news around about Tony’s birthday.”
North East Lincolnshire Council’s Mayor Terry Walker said: “I was pleased to present the winner of the race with their trophy.
“It was great to see so many people giving it their all.
“Completing a 10k is a huge accomplishment, so congratulations to everyone who ran.”
