WALTHAM Library’s latest programme of monthly events concludes on Friday, June 14, with a talk by Paul Hare, an early aviation specialist.
The event rounds off a series of insightful talks from local speakers as well as screenings of archived film footage from the Independent Cinema Office in partnership with the British Film Institute.
Cleethorpes-based Paul Hare has written a number of books and magazine articles about early aviation and is delighted to bring his talk, Balancing A Blancmange, to audiences at Waltham Library as part of the programme organised by Lincs Inspire Libraries.
His talk will bring stories of flying’s early days when it was possible to learn to fly in only one day, even before breakfast and when steering an aeroplane was described, by someone who had done it, as being like sliding down the banisters whilst balancing a blancmange!
The talk takes place at 2:30pm and tickets costs £3.50. Bookings can be made at Waltham Library, by calling (01472) 323656 or by emailing: jennie.cartwright@lincsinspire.com.
Although the last in the current series of events, Lincs Inspire Libraries is delighted to be bringing a new talk season to audiences from October featuring local authors, historians and lecturers. Further details soon to be announced.
Jennie Cartwright, Development Officer for Lincs Inspire Libraries, said: “Over 170 people had enjoyed the talks on a wide variety of subjects ranging from the history of our local streets, railways, the seaside and chocolate tasting. It’s hoped that the new series of talks planned for the autumn will provide something for everyone in the choice of subjects.”
