Local flower enthusiasts pick up top tips from celebrity florist
Last Saturday (13 April), at Grimsby Garden Centre, local flower enthusiasts joined nationally renowned florist, and star of the BBC’s The Apprentice, Elizabeth McKenna for a masterclass in spring flower arranging.
Elizabeth, who describes herself as ‘the potty florist from Nottingham ’, gave a fun-filled floral demonstration, sharing industry top tips and the secrets behind the posy she presented to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. Elizabeth helped the 20 florists and flower fanatics that attended the workshop to create their own arrangements to take home with them.
The workshop kick-starts Elizabeth’s relationship with the not-for-profit garden centre, offering up her expertise as a successful entrepreneur specialising in horticulture.
Elizabeth will help to improve the team’s visual merchandising and give the garden centre’s volunteers and members the opportunity to expand their skills.
Elizabeth said: “It was a really enjoyable afternoon. We created some wonderful arrangements that you could easily recreate at home using bits you could pick up from any florist. I look forward to coming down to Grimsby Garden Centre workshops coming up in the future and as part of my work supporting the team and helping the garden centre continue to grow, for more so watch this space.”
Elizabeth McKenna has worked across all levels, from trainee to director. She currently runs her own two businesses: Elizabeth McKenna Flowers and Lizzie’s Bundles, as well as attending events as an educational speaker.
NAViGO runs a number of local organisations alongside Grimsby Garden Centre – each of which offer real-life training and support for service users and allow profits to support the provision of mental health services
