Roundabout lane closure to be extended
A lane closure at Pyewipe roundabout is to be extended by a week.
Electrical works and the installation of a parking area for highway maintenance vehicles are taking place at the roundabout within the central island across the A180 Westbound carriageway.
The works started on Monday, October 12, between 8pm and 5am each night, and were due to end on Friday, November 6, but due to contractor supply chain issues in sourcing the equipment required, the lane closure has been extended until Friday, November 13.
This will allow the required works to take place for the foundations of the new Variable Message Sign (VMS).
During the working hours, to ensure the safety of the contractor, the A180 west and eastbound carriageways between Pyewipe roundabout and the Great Coates Interchange will be reduced to one lane.
Once the electrical works are complete, the area will have the required infrastructure in place to allow for the installation of a variable message sign (VMS). VMS provides highway authorities and motorists with a number of benefits, including allowing messages advising of roadworks, events or congestion to be displayed.
The works are being managed and overseen by the council’s regeneration partner, ENGIE, with local contractor, McCann Ltd, carrying out the works.
These works have been co-ordinated alongside the ongoing Estate Road 2 carriage and footway improvements and businesses in the area have been informed of these works.
