Businesses announce their lockdown changes
Grimsby’s main shopping centre is extending its opening hours for three days ahead of the England lockdown that comes into force on Thursday.
Freshney Place said it had made the decision “to support our retailers and help our customers”.
The Prime Minister announced on Saturday that pubs, bars, restaurants and non-essential retail must close from Thursday for four weeks across England, with furlough payments at 80% extended for the duration of the new measures.
Food shops, supermarkets, garden centres and certain other retailers providing essential goods and services can remain open.
Non-essential retail can remain open for delivery to customers and click-and-collect.
Freshney Place said: “To support our retailers and help our customers the shopping centre will be open until 7pm for today (2nd), Tuesday (3rd) and Wednesday (4th) November.
“Please ensure masks are worn when shopping with us. Unless exempt.
“Please note individual store times can vary, check direct with the store for their opening hours before setting off.”
Other local businesses and leisure facilities have also made announcements before the changes.
Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes said: “Following the Government announcement yesterday, we are sad to say that we’ll soon be closing our doors for another interval…
“We are open today and for the next few days, so there’s still time to escape from reality for a few hours!
“We’ll have an update about refunds on Monday, and hopefully some good news about rearranging events too.
“Thank you for all your support and positive comments over the last few weeks. It’s been amazing to be open and welcoming you all back to what we feel was a safe and welcoming environment.
“Stay safe, be careful and let’s hope that we can return to some kind of normality in December.”
Grimsby community facility Nunny’s Farm, in Wootton Road, said it was making entry by donation to make it available to all before closing.
It said: “Due to new government restrictions, the farm will be closed from Thursday, until the government lift the restrictions.
“Until then, we will be open, Monday to Wednesday 9.30am till 4pm, last entry 3pm.
“Entry is now by donation, so as to make available to all.
“We would also like to say thank you to all who have visited and supported us since opening in June. We hope we can see you all very soon!”
While Grimsby Town Hall said: “Following the latest government guidance, the Time Trap will be temporarily closing its doors from this Wednesday at 4pm until further notice.
“Thank you to each of you for your wonderful support. Please do take care.”
Playgrounds can remain open, but to reduce social contact, the Government has ordered certain businesses and venues to close.
These include: Clothing stores, electronics stores, vehicle showrooms, travel agents, betting shops, car washes, and tobacco and vape shops.
Indoor and outdoor leisure facilities that must close include: Bowling alleys, leisure centres and gyms, swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges, dance studios, stables and riding centres and soft play facilities.
Entertainment venues affected include: Theatres, cinemas, museums and galleries, arcades, bingo halls, zoos and other animal attractions.
Also closing will be: hair, beauty and nail salons, tattoo parlours, body and skin piercing services, non-medical acupuncture, and tanning salons.
