Worker at Young’s Seafood tests positive for Covid-19
A positive case of Covid-19 has been discovered among the workforce at Young’s Seafood in Grimsby, it has been confirmed.
The woman, who works at the Humberston Road site, has not been named, but is said to be in recovery at home.
According to the company, everybody working in close proximity to her has also been tested.
No other positive results have been identified, and nobody else has been instructed to isolate.
Instead, the 2,300-strong staff have been given reassurance.
Young’s Seafood say they have strict hygiene measures and social distancing policies in place.
Confirming the situation, a spokesperson for the firm added:
“Young’s Seafood can confirm that a worker at our Humberstone Road site has tested positive for Covid-19 coronavirus.
“The worker is now self-isolating at home, and we wish her a speedy recovery from the illness.
“We are taking this situation very seriously and understand this development may cause concern amongst our colleagues and the wider community.
“We wish to reassure them that all employees identified as close contacts of the worker have undertaken tests and returned negative results for Covid-19.
“We are continuing to follow government guidelines and doing everything possible to protect our people and the wider general public at this time and ensure as a food business we can keep food on our nation’s tables.
“Like all food manufacturing businesses, there are strict hygiene controls in place across all of our sites. In addition, all our teams wear protective clothing and wash and sanitise their hands frequently throughout the day.
“Social distancing policies and practices that follow government guidelines in order to help safeguard our colleagues have been in place for many weeks.”
