Brits can finally travel to France again.
Craving a croissant? You’re not alone. In fact, around 17 million British nationals visit France every year and there’s no secret that us Brits love a little escapade parisienne!
Since Covid-19 hit Europe, travel to France has been restricted and the plans to lift those restrictions have changed almost on a weekly basis.
Many other European countries, such as Greece and Italy, had already made announcements regarding the opening of their borders from 15 June. Missing from that list was France, who finally announced their plans to reopen borders late last week.
Connexion France reports:
France will open its borders to visitors from European countries, including the UK, from Monday (15 June) and there will be no more forms to fill in for those wanting to come. This includes those wanting to come for tourist trips or to spend time at second homes. The UK is within the boundaries of ‘Europe’ for Covid-19 border closures.
It’s not all systems go though.
Christophe Mathieu, the CEO of Brittany Ferries has announced:
We’re now finalising plans for fleet deployment and intend confirming schedules for the coming weeks in the coming days. As things stand I don’t think it will be ready by Monday. There are many vagaries that may interrupt our careful planning, but I’m confident we’ll be back operating at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, in France, hotels and restaurants have been allowed to reopen, and French residents have been able to travel more than 100km from their homes. The country is now looking forward to welcoming overseas tourists in an attempt to rescue the summer season.
