Petition for doctors to always trust a mother’s intuition as baby’s cancer is missed.
A mum from Immingham is campaigning for the mother’s intuition to be taken seriously by the NHS. Because of her daughter’s ordeal. Her nine-month-old baby daughter was seen by eight GPs and was repeatedly diagnosed with a viral infection. Before her symptoms were finally recognised as a rare cancer. Last week her baby daughter was sadly diagnosed with atypical rhabdoid tumor a rare and aggressive brain tumour. It is thought she has also been diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Which is a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid accumulates within the brain. It is believed that her daughter is now undergoing life-saving brain surgery. which will be followed by chemotherapy treatment.
Soraya’s mum had spent three months going from doctor and claims that she was told it was nothing more than a viral infection. But her mother’s intuition told her it was more than a viral infection. She has launched a petition Soraya’s Law and has had more than 750 signatures in under one week. Her aim is for mothers to be listened to and taken seriously, making a mothers intuition a genuine diagnostic tool for the NHS. There is not another person in the world who will know a baby like there mummy.
A Go Fund Me page and a Facebook group called Soraya’s Army have been set up also to support the family emotionally and financially through the ordeal. You can sign the petition at change.org Soraya’s Law.
