Local musicians create Christmas song dedicated to St Andrews Hospice
Young entrepreneur and fundraiser George Kavanagh has teamed up with a local musician to create a Christmas song for St Andrews Hospice.
18-year-old George has dedicated his life to fundraising for the hospice after sadly losing his dad to cancer at just eight-years-old.
In the ten years since, George has held countless events and raised thousands of pounds, even winning the regional ITV Pride of Britain award.
Now, George has turned his hand to music after realising his poetry could be made into a Christmas song.
Speaking to Gi Grimsby News, George said that instead of studying for his A-levels when he was bored he turned to poetry, only to realise that the lyrics could be related to those who have dealings with the Hospice.
He said: “So basically when I’ve got bored lately I’ve just wrote poems instead of doing something worthwhile like revising for A-levels… and I don’t know why, I just sat there and wrote up some lyrics for a Christmas song, and when I read it back it sounded like something a lot of people could relate to that have had dealings with the Hospice. So I kind of bit the bullet and contacted Sam Simmons, one of our top local musicians to see if he’d put some music to it and we’re just looking at getting it recorded and completed on MP3.”
Entitled ‘Under the Tree’, George and Sam hope they can hear their tune on the local radio on the run up to Christmas and raise awareness of the amazing work carried out at St Andrew’s Hospice.
He added: “I’d like it playing on our local radio on the run up to Christmas, to raise awareness of the Hospice and keep it in people’s thoughts over Christmas, and hopefully we can do exactly that! Someone’s reached out from That’s TV Humber so hopefully I can be on the telly soon talking about it as well.”
The pair hope to record in the upcoming weeks in time for the festive period to begin.
