Grimsby mourns the passing of Queen Elizabeth the II

Yesterday evening the tragic news broke that her majesty Queen Elizabeth the II passed away aged 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland surrounded by her family.

The news has shocked the entire world, as the nation goes into a time of mourning and reflection to remember how the Queen served the UK with grace, dignity and love for 70 years.

Charles, who will now assume the throne, said in a written statement: “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother.

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”

Peoples across North East Lincolnshire have shared their thoughts on the Queen’s passing, stating what she meant to them as well as wishing his majesty King Charles the III a long and successful rule.

Cllr Steve Beasant, Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, said: “It is with profound sadness that North East Lincolnshire Council learnt of the death of Her Majesty The Queen today.

“Queen Elizabeth II had served her country, Commonwealth and people loyally for more than 70 years and she is the longest serving Monarch to have overseen the United Kingdom and Countries of the Commonwealth.

“Flags across the Borough have been lowered to half-mast as a sign of respect for Her Majesty’s passing.”

Bashir Miah, Chairman of Cleethorpes Bangladeshi Cultural Society and Mosque, said: “On behalf of The Cleethorpes Bangladeshi Cultural Society and Mosque I would like to express our organisations deepest sadness at the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. The Queen has dedicated her whole life to our nation and the wider commonwealth. Her loss will be felt deeply and personally by our whole nation. She was a reassuring presence who personified our great nation. Always steadfast, wise and admired globally. Her Platinum Jubalee this year was a time to celebrate our nations greatest servant. Her passing is now a time to reflect on the many lessons she taught us. Our thoughts and prayers are now with His Majesty The King, Queen Consort and the whole Royal Family at this challenging time.”

Matthew Brown, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cleethorpes Community Spirt and Education, said: “The Leadership CCSE at The Trin Centre would like to put on record our condolences following the sad passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Her dedication to our nation is unmatched and her legacy will be remembered for many years. She has been our national identity and constant who we all depended. Our thoughts and prayers are now with His Majesty The King and the Royal Family at this sad time.”

Humberside Police said: “It is with great sadness that Chief Constable Lee Freeman shares the news of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

“The thoughts and condolences of the Chief Constable, chief officers, officers and staff of Humberside Police are with the Royal Family at this sad time.

“The Union flag will fly at half-mast at stations as a sign of respect and mourning.”

King Charles and the Queen Consort Camilla will now make their way back to London as Charles will address the nation later this evening.

Her majesty is expected to lie in state in a few days’ time in London, with her state funeral held in Westminster Abbey in central London in around ten days time.

On Saturday morning, a Accession Council will meet at St James’s Palace in London to formally proclaim Charles as the new sovereign.
