Scunthorpe shop owners shocked by amazing donation support
Scunthorpe shop owners have been left shocked by the amazing support exhibited after losing £1,000 worth of chocolate during the heatwave.
Linda and Stephen Ellis, who own Ellis Stores located on Cottage Beck Road in Scunthorpe, suffered a huge loss of chocolate stock during extreme weather conditions last month.
Following the vast setback, Linda and Stephen’s daughter Claire decided to launch a GoFundMe campaign with hopes to raise money for her parents.
Claire published the campaign with the hopes of collecting £500 to help the independent family-run shop. Amazingly, the goal was smashed, and donations continue to flood in with the total creeping near to £4,000!
Claire noted how Linda and Stephen have endured a “pretty pants year” as she hoped to help her parents in any way possible.
“Unfortunately, during Monday and Tuesday’s extreme weather, the air conditioning system couldn’t keep up with the heat and they lost all their chocolate, probably looking at nearly £1000 worth of stock,” the GoFundMe page detailed.
“I’m hoping all the locals and our friends and family could just donate a little or give it a share to try help out a little independent shop.”
Claire also stated how her parents “do so much for everybody else” before adding any financial support would be appreciated as Linda and Stephen “deserve a break.”
As of Wednesday 10 August, Claire’s GoFundMe page has collected a staggering £3,692, raised by 282 people from across the country.
Along with the generous donations, people left kind messages and words of encouragement, one woman from Dorset saying:
“Another mini heatwave on its way! I wish you every success. Businesses like yours are invaluable.”
“Great to support small independent family businesses as they do great things supporting the local community,” added another.
“Keep smiling through. Loads of people you have never met really appreciate what local independent shop keepers do for their communities,” read another heart-warming message.
