Town fans react to McAtee’s shock exit
Grimsby Town fans have shared their reactions on social media following John McAtee’s shock exit from the club.
Earlier this morning, GTFC confirmed they had agreed terms with Sky Bet Championship side Luton Town for the signing of club superstar John McAtee.
The 23-year-old singed for the Mariners back in the summer of 2021 after his contract ended with Scunthorpe United.
Since joining the Black and White Army, McAtee quickly became a fan favourite and played an instrumental role during Town’s promotion winning season in the National League.
McAtee was a constant goal threat for the Mariners throughout last year’s campaign and continued his deadly activity in the final third right through Grimsby’s play-off run – no surprise he has attracted the attention of a Championship side.
Despite signing with Luton Town, McAtee will instantly return to Blundell Park on loan from his new club until the end of the season.
Following the announcement, fans flooded the comment section with words of congratulations, gratitude and relief that he would still wear black and white strips for another year.
“Good luck to you John. You have and will continue to be a class player wherever you go. I’m sure I can say a big thank you from all of the mariners fan base,” thanked for Mariner.
“Good move for him… also a good move for him to stay on loan for the season,” replied another.
“Excellent bit of play from town, thanks for your efforts and I’m sure you will give us your all until the end of the season,” stated another pleased Town fan.
