By School uniform rules lifted in Grimsby ready for scorching heat wave
Schools in Grimsby and Cleethorpes have told their students not to wear standard school uniform next week due to the incoming heat wave.
The Met Office has placed an amber heat warning for Northern Lincolnshire as temperatures are expected to hit 32C.
Humberston Academy has told their students to come in full PE kit as well as bringing in water bottles and suncream. Students are still asked to use their academy rucksacks.
In a message sent to parents, the school said: “We are conscious there is an amber heat warning for ‘extreme heat’ in our region for Monday and Tuesday next week.
“We have therefore made the decision that students can come into the academy next week in their full PE kit instead of school uniform.
“There is still an expectation for learning to take place and therefore we ask your child is still equipped with their academy rucksacks and ‘5 a day’.
“Please may we also ask you to remind your children to wear suncream and bring a water bottle to school. This can be refilled before and after school as well as during break-time and lunch. Thank you for your co-operation.”
John Whitgift Academy has said students can come to school on Monday and Tuesday without wearing their ties or their blazers. In an email to parents, they said: “As I am sure you are aware, we are expecting unusually high temperatures week commencing 18th July, especially Monday and Tuesday.
“With that in mind, I [Principal Rob Spendlow] have agreed to the following concessions for next week only. Monday 18th July, blazers and ties need not be worn. Tuesday 19th July, same as Monday.”
Grange Academy is also allowing students to come in their PE kits on Monday and Tuesday. In an email, the school said: “As you will be aware we are under an amber warning for extreme hear next Monday and Tuesday.
“In light of this, please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately to keep cool. Your child may come to school in their school PE kit, black/blue shorts, and plain white t-shirt.”
