Baby boom in Grimsby as figures double in a single day!

There is a baby boom underway for births in a single day in Grimsby, at a record of 17 births in one day alone.

At Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital there is an average of seven babies born each day, but as a significant jump, staff was rushed on June 10th as the rate more than doubled.

Jane Warner, Associate Chief Nurse for Midwifery, Gynaecology, and Breast Services, said: “This was an exceptional day at Grimsby Maternity Unit where the entire team supported 17 women to give birth.

“The average number of babies born each day on the unit is seven, so this is more than twice that number.

“The obstetric doctors, midwives, and midwifery support staff are a dedicated team that works extremely hard to support the safe delivery of all the women that pass through the unit. I want to say a big thank you to all those involved and all the maternity staff across the Trust for their hard work.”

In the previous decade, the birth rate dropped to a figure of 1,1941 births recorded in North East Lincolnshire. It reduced to 1,573 in 2020, which was the latest figure.

The hospital is responsible for a large number of mothers from the Northern Lincolnshire area, and families from the Louth and Mablethorpe areas, among the 2,2120 babies born in 2021.

Several patients who recently attended Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby have come forward with experiences of negative treatment in the A&E department.

This follows reports from staff within the department regarding bullying.

Several members of staff stated that there is a ‘hierarchal system of bullying’ within the hospital.

But the worst claims came from the A&E department, where there are rampant claims of misogyny and racism amongst other forms of bullying from senior doctors to the nursing staff.

A member of staff claimed that the department “isn’t safe,” alleging that in the event of an emergency they would rather drive to Hull or Lincoln for treatment than go to the Grimsby hospital.
