Scunthorpe United excite fans as Andrew Boyce returns to the club
Scunthorpe United have confirmed the signing of ex-Iron man, Andrew Boyce following his exit from Eastleigh.
The 32-year-old centre-back is the first signing made by gaffer Keith Hill this summer.
Boyce made 37 appearances for the Iron with 33 during their 2014-15 campaign.
The defender has played at several clubs throughout his career such as Grimsby Town, Notts County, Hartlepool and of course, Eastleigh – he made 207 appearances in all competitions for the National League side, even bagging nine goals.
As the club announced he would be returning, fans flooded the comments with kind words and open arms, one said:
“Welcome back. Should never have been released. Never walked away from a challenge or turned his back on the club”
“Defo the type of player needed, good start”, added another.
“Solid lad good player and good for morale”, praised another.
“Great signing! Up The Iron”, voiced another.
Speaking to iFollow Iron, Andrew Boyce said:
“I’m buzzing to return. The gaffer gave me a ring to say he was interested and he’d like to meet, so that’s what we did, and here we are.
“There was other interest too but when I found out Scunny wanted me and there was an offer there it didn’t take long to make my mind up.
“I’d been there (at Eastleigh) for five years and loved my time there but I am a northern lad and always wanted to come back home.
“I want to impress personally and play well as a team. It’s a tough league. I’ve been in it a good few years now but you want to be in and amongst it near the top of the league. There are no easy games, it is enjoyable but hard.
“I’ve seen a few faces around the place that were here when I was last time already. It feels like home.”
Boyce’s return marks the first signing of the summer, who’s next gaffer?
