Locals outraged and appalled as Lia Nici votes for PM to stay in office

Yesterday Boris Johnson faced a vote of no confidence after 54 Tory MPs submitted letters of no confidence to the 1922 committee.

After a whole day of nail-biting anticipation, it was announced that he would remain in as prime minister, with 211 MPs voting in favour while 148 voted against.

One such MP who has given the PM their ‘full support’ is Great Grimsby MP Lia Nici.

Sharing her stance on Twitter, the MP said: “I will be voting (by proxy) today in full support of the Prime Minister. He delivered Brexit. He secured Covid vaccines freeing us from lockdowns earlier. PM getting on with the job of tackling illegal immigration and Levelling Up.”

The Grimsby MP, who is also one of Mr Johnson’s private secretaries, has consistently shown her support for the prime minister.

However, many locals have taken issue with Ms Nici’s stance, stating that it doesn’t represent the feeling of Grimsby’s constituents.

One local wrote: “Please do not think you are representing my wishes and views taking this action. Brexit is not done, Covid is not over, levelling up is not achievable in conjuction with other government policy. Migrants are not legal. You disappoint me with your blinkered subservience.”

Another added: “He hasn’t delivered Brexit. It’s a mess. Issues in Northern Ireland +borders etc but levelling up is laughable. You are loyal to him and obviously put your own self interest above your constituents. The whole country deserves better not just our area.”

One person added that Ms Nici’s stance made them feel “disappointed” to be from the area: “Extremely disappointed as a Lincolnshire resident.

“I will never vote Conservative again following this shambles of a government.”
