North Lincolnshire students set to benefit as huge cash injection is announced

College students from North Lincolnshire will benefit from a huge cash injection, the council announced.

The council will extend a popular policy, once again, after conversations pertaining to funding were explored at a recent meeting.

Students from our community will now be able to benefit from travel support which will enable them to get to and from educational facilities.

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for Children and Young people, said:

“I am delighted that the Council is again committing real financial support for eligible students with a travel grant of £315 per year”

“Working together with the colleges and the transport providers has meant we are able to provide affordable travel for young people and their parents, particularly those in the rural communities, to get to and from our fantastic college and education facilities”, she added.

“Additionally, we are continuing to support our special needs student education transport providing specialist service where necessary. We are also supporting independent travel training in order that they can access public transport and acquire this important life-skill”

This year, North Lincolnshire Council have made more than £500,000 available for educational travel.

The council will promote buses and public transport through this grant. Students are also encouraged to use environmentally sustainable forms of transport were possible.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Supporting families and young people is a real priority for our council, particularly when we are experiencing the challenges of global inflation pressures”

“Many councils expect students to pay and some up to £1000 for travel to access further education, in North Lincolnshire we value the contribution that young people make in our community and we are keeping our promise to support families helping them access the potential that post 16 education can provide”, he added.

Students can apply for this grant via their existing college.
