Grimsby charity expects number of those struggling to rise as cost of living crisis worsens
A Grimsby charity has warned that the number of people struggling will continue to rise as the cost of living crisis worsens.
They added that food banks and food kitchens are getting busier as more and more people need urgent help.
This warning comes as Rishi Sunak announced a one-off £400 discount on UK household energy bills this autumn as the price cap rose to a staggering £2,800.
The poorest households will also get a one-off payment of £650 to help with the cost of living following warnings that millions could be left struggling.
Earlier this week UK energy regulator Ofgem warned that 12 million households could be pushed into poverty because of the cost of heating their homes.
Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio, Dave Wells founder and chair of the We Are One charity in Grimsby spoke about how bad the situation is amongst the people they help.
He told us “Prices are going up, including fuel, those that need help are being affected a huge amount”.
“I can see the situation getting a lot worse.”
“We haven’t got enough food to go round, our foodbanks and hot food kitchens are becoming much more busy”.
“It’s not crisis time yet but it’s certainly getting that way.”
“We’re heading into a really challenging time and need all the help we can get.”
“These families truly need all the help they can get.”
