Town announce they are unable to screen Saturday’s semi-final
Grimsby Town have announced they are unable to screen Saturday’s play-off semi-final.
The Mariners booked their place in the play-off semi-finals following an incredible victory at Meadow Lane.
The Black and White Army did the unthinkable after Gavan Holohan netted a 96th minute goal which forced the game into extra time.
Then, from 1-0 down, Town claimed victory thanks to an Emmanuel Dieseruvwe goal, before a penalty shootout would have decided Grimsby’s fate.
Following the win, the Mariners will now travel to Wrexham. However, the club only allocated 1,200 tickets for Grimsby fans – which sold out instantly.
Unlike Monday’s (23 May) fixture, McMenemy’s is unavailable to screen the upcoming game.
Desperate to find an alternative plan, Grimsby Town staff worked tirelessly to find a solution. Unfortunately, permission to screen the match at Blundell Park could not be obtained.
“Despite our best efforts over the last few days, regrettably we have not been able to obtain the permission required to broadcast Saturday’s Play-Off Semi-Final at Blundell Park”, the club said in a statement.
“We wanted to inform you that, as a Football Club, we have done absolutely everything within our power to make this happen and we’d like to apologise to those supporters who’d hoped to watch the game here”, they added.
“Thank you once again for your magnificent support this season – it really is appreciated”
Additionally, local venues that plan on showing the fixture have started to sell out!
The Linden Club announced they are now fully booked for Saturday.
The Wellow, in Cleethorpes, stated they have several seats left but are advising to book as soon as possible!
How will you be watching the game? Let us know in the comments!
